[35.02] Elements of a Successful REU Site

K. D. Eastwood (NSF and NAU)

This talk will be particularly useful to those considering starting a new REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) site, and should also be helpful to those new at supervising undergraduate research projects. As indicated, elements of a successful REU site will be discussed. These elements include the role of the site director, choosing mentors, what constitutes an appropriate student research project, planning student activities, ensuring adequate institutional support, recruitment, and project evaluation.
