[58.01] Probing the Dark Matter Distribution at <0.01 Rvir in Abell 2029 with Chandra

We have used high resolution Chandra observations to examine the core mass distribution of the cD cluster A2029. It is unusually relaxed and regular compared to many other nearby systems, and also shows no evidence for a cooling flow. From fitted profiles to our intracluster gas density and temperature measurements, we estimate the total mass and the gas mass fraction from ~0.002 to 0.1 rvir. We find a mass profile remarkably consistent with a dark matter (DM)-dominated system which follows the NFW model well below 0.01 rvir. This in contrast with the flattened DM cores required by the rotation curves of LSB and dwarf galaxies, suggesting that while CDM simulations are appropriate for objects of cluster mass, they do not account for the formation and evolution of small halos.
