S. Vera, P. Candia, K. Krisciunas, R. Leiton, N. B. Suntzeff (CTIO)
We have determined the B-band and V-band sky brightness over Cerro Tololo during the years 1988 to 2001 using CCD images obtained with the CTIO 0.9-m and 1.5-m telescopes. CCD observations have the potential of being much more accurate than single channel photometry of the sky because one can remove faint objects in the image to provide a more robust modal value of the sky. In comparing the CTIO data with values obtained at Mauna Kea from 1985 to 1996 (Krisciunas 1990, 1997), we find that the sky was fainter at CTIO during the years of overlap. However, the more recent data shows we that the sky brightness at CTIO is higher than observed during the previous solar maximum.
