[7.08] The Dynamical Distance of the Globular Cluster M15

T.C. Tavenner, B.J. McNamara (New Mexico State University)

A new distance to M15 is presented using a large sample of HST based proper motions computed by the authors and radial velocities from Gebhardt et al. (1997). This dynamical distance is independent of any assumptions about stellar evolution and therefore serves as a valuable test of the traditional method by which distances are estimated. This work is supported by NASA through a grant from the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555.
