[15.04] Numerical Simulations of Tilted Accretion Flows around Rotating Black Holes

P. C. Fragile, P. Anninos (LLNL)

We present results of numerical simulations of tilted accreting tori around rapidly rotating black holes. Such configurations may be relevant to active galactic nuclei, X-ray binaries, and gamma-ray burst progenitors. We have carried out these simulations in a fixed Kerr metric in three dimensions with the COSMOS hydrodynamics code. Although our initial runs were underresolved, some interesting properties were observed.

This work was performed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy by the University of California Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under contract No. W-7405-Eng-48.
