The Chandra Deep Field Surveys (1--2 Ms) provide the deepest view of the Universe in the 0.5--8.0 keV band and resolve more than 80 I will present detailed X-ray spectral analyses of the brightest ~200 sources in these fields. These faint sources are likely to represent the bulk of the 0.5-8.0 keV accretion activity in the Universe. Their spectra often appear to have complex signitures (e.g., reflection, Fe K\alpha emission lines, partial covering) characteristic of local moderate-luminosity Seyfert galaxies, whereas previous X-ray surveys primarily found more luminous, unobscured broad-line AGN. I will discuss these results in the context of the cosmological evolution of the AGN X-ray luminosity function and population synthesis models.
