[87.08] The Complex Structure and Kinematics of the Oxygen-Rich SNR G292.0+1.8

We have conducted a kinematic study of the oxygen-rich SNR G292.0+1.8 using the Rutgers Fabry-Perot spectrometer. High velocity knots of oxygen ejecta are seen in [O III] along the east and southeast portions of the remnant, extending over the range +/-1500 km/s while the equatorial bar structure observed in the X-rays by Chandra is detected at zero velocity. Spectroscopically the knots appear as a large collection of spectrally unresolved lines spread over a wide range in bulk velocity, suggesting that the oxygen knots are being destroyed by strong shear forces. We also present Rutgers Fabry-Perot imagery in H-alpha, which for the first time reveal both the equatorial bar in H-alpha and what appear to be photoionized clouds of material not detected in the X-rays and seen in projection in the remnant interior.
