[7.13] A search for short period variables in the core of NGC 288

While exotic objects have been tentatively identified through their UV colours in the cores of some Globular Clusters, an unambiguous detection and classification of such objects necessarily requires the analysis of their light curve. Most objects of interest (blue stragglers, X-ray binaries, cataclysmic variables) have relatively small amplitude variations with periods ranging from 2 to 10 hours. We present observations using FORS2 on the VLT of the core of NGC 288 over a period of 8 hours, through short U- and B-band imaging in good seeing. These data have been processed using Dophot and light curves for 7000 objects were constructed. We present the results for our search for blue stragglers and other binaries in the core of NGC 288 and relate their positions to known, previously detected objects in X-ray studies.
