Nearby starburst galaxies offer the opportunity to study galactic-scale star formation events and the interplay between stars and the host galaxy's interstellar medium in great detail. We present multiwavelength HST observations of four nearby (3-5 Mpc) starburst galaxies, spanning a range of masses, metallicities and environmental conditions. The data consist of broad- and narrow-band images of the stellar populations and ionized gas in the starburst regions of these galaxies, obtained with WFPC2. We examine the star-formation histories of the starbursts, and the physical structure and conditions of the ionized gas. These analyses allow us to constrain the nature and evolution of the starburst phenomenon.
