[54.01] Tracking the frequency and flux of the accretion-powered X-ray Pulsar KS~1947+300

E. Morgan, D.K. Galloway, D. Chakrabarti, A. M. Levine (MIT)

The Be/X-ray transient KS~1947+300 was observed with RXTE during a long outburst between 2000 November and 2001 June. Pulse timing measurements throughout the outburst showed significant orbital modulation as well as a substantial degree of spin-up. By orbital phase-connection with BATSE observations during a previous outburst in 1994, we find the orbital period to be 40.42(2) days. The errors on the orbital elements are dominated by model dependence of the accretion torque. We also present evidence for a rapid change in the spin frequency that is too large to be due to an external torque.
