[16.13] The Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on Swift

The Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on the Swift gamma-ray burst (GRB) mission serves as the GRB trigger for Swift as well as a sensitive imaging telescope for the energy range of 15-150 keV. BAT is a coded aperture instrument with a 17 arcminute point spread function and a 2 ster partially coded FOV. The imaging array has 32768 4mm CdZnTe detectors with an area of 5243 cm². Burst alerts including BAT positions and light curves will be distributed immediately via the GRB Coordinates Network. The BAT instrument has been assembled and is currently undergoing testing and calibration.
