[44.01] The Chandra HETGS Spectrum of GRB 020813: Evidence for Recent SN

We report the detection of lines from light elements (Si, S, and Ca), and possibly Ni, in the Chandra HETGS spectrum taken ~1 day after GRB 020813. These appear to be variable and seem to be well fit by a reflection model. Lines from Fe are not observed, indicating that a pre-cursor SN must have been recent. We discuss the significance and interpretation of the spectral features observed.

This research was supported in part by NASA contract NASW-4690.
