[16.07] First Results from Half of the ROTSE-III Network

D. A. Smith (University of Michigan), ROTSE Collaboration

We report on the recent installation and activation of the first two telescopes in the world-wide ROTSE--III network. Instruments have been operating at Siding Spring Observatory in New South Wales, Australia, and McDonald Observatory in Texas, USA, since mid-February 2003. We will describe the performance of each telescope and show examples of variable objects discovered. The primary mission of ROTSE--III is to achieve prompt, automated responses to GRB alerts, and we will present early results from observations to follow up burst alerts distributed by space missions such as HETE and INTEGRAL.
