[21.02] The Contribution of Particle Impact to the Production of Fe K\alpha Emission

D.R. Ballantyne (CITA, U. of Toronto), A.C. Fabian (IoA, Cambridge)

We consider the importance of particle processes (electron & proton impact, charge exchange) in the production of the Fe K\alpha line in accreting black holes. For each process, estimates of the expected line flux are calculated for different conditions and compared with that from the traditional photoionization and fluorescence process. The implications for the efficiency of particle acceleration in the accretion disc corona, as well as Fe K\alpha variability, are discussed.
