In recent years, interest in extra-solar planets has spawned extensive efforts to characterize as many aspects of these objects as is observationally and theoretically possible. One area of active research is high-resolution spectroscopy of stars having ``planetary" companions. High resolution spectroscopy of the Jovian planets reveal strong emission of H3+, thus a detection of H3+ in an extra solar object might be plausible. We discuss the sensitivity needed to detect a ‘standard Jupiter’ around an exoplanet and the limits of our observations.
