[44.03] OVI Spectroscopy with SPIDR

P.R. LaPlume (Boston University), J.S. Arabadjis (MIT), S. Chakrabarti, T.A. Cook (Boston University)

The Spectroscopy and Photometry of IGM's Diffuse Radiation (SPIDR) mission will utilize six single-element imaging spectrographs to observe UV emission from the Warm-Hot Intergalactic Medium (WHIM). Several coded slit arrangements are currently under consideration, with the goal of maximimizing sensitivity to emission in the OVI doublet. We present here a study of the different slit configurations. We use matched filter analysis and Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations, and include realistic values of the Galactic background and Lyman alpha scattering over a wide range of OVI doublet strengths. We briefly discuss its impact on SPIDR's ability to detect the WHIM over a broad range of redshift. Support for this study has been provided by NASA Contract NAS 5-03013.
