[45.04] How GRB Time Histories Relate to the Internal Luminosity Function

The gamma-ray burst Internal Luminosity Function (ILF) is shown to relate to time histories in a preliminary analysis using a simple classification scheme based on visual inspection. GRBs with broad, simple emission episodes tend to have flat ILF indices, whereas GRBs with narrow, complex pulses tend to have steep ILF indices. This is surprising because such a correlation indicates that the ILF should be an indicator of overall GRB luminosity based on claims that burst variability is a luminosity indicator. Since the ILF relates strongly to duration and duty cycle, then it appears that these attributes should be luminosity indicators as well.
