[42.12] Chandra Observations of Point Sources in Abell 2255

We present Chandra observations of the nearby cluster Abell 2255, in conjunction with sensitive radio observations and Sloan Digital Sky Survey optical data. This combination of data allows us to identify cluster galaxies associated with point-like X-ray emission, and classify these galaxies using their X-ray, radio, and optical properties. Each of the X-ray detected cluster galaxies is also detected in the radio, and the galaxy classifications include starburst galaxies, post-starburst galaxies, and AGN. The several detected AGN lack optical signatures of nuclear activity, thereby strengthening the claim that the fraction of cluster galaxies hosting an AGN based on optical data is signficantly lower than the fraction based on X-ray and radio data. Taking these sources into account appears to reconcile the difference in the AGN fraction of the field vs. that in clusters.
