[19.03] The Sensitivity of Percolaiton Analysis and the Genus Statistic to Redshift Distortions

We show that Percolation Analysis can detect both increases and decreases in connectivity due to redshift distortions in a density distribution, whereas the Genus Statistic lacks this discriminating ability in this test. The effect of redshift distortions is monotonic and depends on the degree of evolution of the distribution or correspondingly the proximity of the observer to the structures. We present the Percolation and Genus results for density fields derived from N-body simulations. The density fields are derived from the "real" and "redshifted" positions of the particles. The simulations were initialized in accordance with power law spectra covering the range n = -2 to n = 0. A shift towards more connectivity is indicative of filamentary structure, whereas, a shift towards less connectivity is a shift towards a random-Gaussian, structureless distribution or isolated structures.
