[29.11] Molecular hydrogen in photoionized regions

G. Ferland, G. Shaw (UK), P. Stancil (U. Georgia), M. Mihalache-Leca (UK)

Molecular hydrogen forms and emits in regions of a PDR that contain a mixture of ingredients, including extinguished starlight, x-rays, cosmic rays, physical processes on grains, and collisional interactions with the surrounding gas. We have incorporated a large model of the hydrogen molecule into the spectral synthesis code Cloudy. This poster will discuss some of the differences between our calculations and previous results, as well as the possibility of detecting molecular hydrogen emission from H II regions in the optical region bandpass.
