[12.04] School children as inquiring astronomers in the information age

In the light of increased access to ``information’’ and technological tools, I will discuss the opportunities for, and pitfalls of, using inquiry based astronomy activities with teachers in the K-12 classroom. Traditionally astronomical investigations and project work have been avoided as teachers have felt uncomfortable about generating hypotheses and gathering and interpreting data in our field. I will show ways in which astronomers may help to reduce these fears and enable teachers to successfully incorporate astronomy into their active classroom environments.
