[6.06] Observation of PSR B1823-13 and its PWN using the Chandra X-ray Observatory

Chandra observation of PSR B1823-13 show a point source that we identify as the pulsar's X-ray counterpart. The background subtracted count rate of the point source in the 1--5 keV band is 5.0 counts ks^-1. The point source is surrounded by a PWN that is about 5 by 9 arcsec in size. The PWN has bright structure along the east-west direction that is symmetric about the pulsar, and there is slight indication of a bow-like structure along the northern edge. The PWN has a hard spectrum with a photon index of approximately 1.2 and has an average surface brightness of approximately 0.18 counts ks^-1 arcsec^-2.
