L. Piro (IASF/CNR -Rome)
We will review the spectral and temporal properties of X-ray afterglows of GRB and confront them with the predictions of the fireball model. We will outline the different X-ray properties of optically dark and bright GRB and briefly discuss about the potential origins of dark GRB's and X-ray flashes, the high-redshift scenario, the absorption in star-forming regions and the effect of observational bias. We will review the data on spectral features in GRB's (iron and soft X- ray lines) and discuss on the prospects of X-ray spectroscopy of GRB for present and future missions.
