[16.05] Methane Absorption Coefficients as a function of Temperature for the 889 nm Band of Methane derived from Intracavity Laser Spectroscopy Measurements

J. J. O'Brien, R. L. Montgomery (Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Missouri-St. Louis)

The absorption spectrum of methane in the 889 nm band has been recorded as function of sample temperature using the intracavity laser spectroscopy technique. Spectra are recorded at high spectral resolution for a series of narrow overlapping spectral regions for methane temperatures down to 77 K and from these spectra, absorption coefficients are derived. A special intracavity laser absorption cell that enables these measurements will be described.

Support from NASA's Planetary Atmospheres Program (NAG5-12013) is gratefully acknowledged.
