We present results from a study of low redshift active galactic nuclei (AGNs) from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey's Data Release One. The major emission line fluxes were measured and decomposed into low and high projected Doppler velocity components. We find evidence from the Balmer decrements of both components that material responsible for intrinsic reddening in AGNs is predominantly associated with the lower velocity gas, and broad-line reddening is primarily an orientation effect.
