[112.08] Linje shape diagnostics of galactic 26Al

D. H. Hartmann (Clemson University), K. Kretschmer, R. Diehl (MPE Garching)

The production of radioactive 26Al in supernovae, and other sources, provides a unique tracer of the global galactic star formation history. The 1.8 MeV line resulting from the decay of 26Al has been detected and mapped. The line shape is affected by the kinematic properties of these nuclei, resulting from the ejection dynamics and galactic differential rotation. We discuss the line observations at 1.8 MeV and their theoretical interpretation.
