[103.07] Preliminary Results from a GALEX Search for Lyman Continuum Emission from Galaxies at z~1

Efforts to quantify the cosmic background of ionizing photons and to understand its origin motivate measurements of Lyman continuum emission from galaxies. We present preliminary results from a search for Lyman continuum emission using the GALEX FUV band at 1350-1800 Å, in imaging mode. This band is suited to searching galaxies beyond z~1 for emission shortward of 912 Å/ rest wavelength. This preliminary search uses a sample size of order 10 galaxies in a GALEX Deep Imaging Survey (DIS) field. We compare our results and sensitivity to other efforts to constrain or measure the Lyman continuum escape fraction of galaxies at various redshifts. We describe future work and expected sensitivity.
