[116.21] Results From a Multi-Wavelength Survey of Barred, Flocculent Galaxies

D. L. Ratay, S. T. Gottesman (University of Florida)

We present results from an optical, near-IR, and HI survey of barred, flocculent galaxies. Typically, galaxies with bars also possess grand design structure. However, there is a small group of galaxies with bars, but with no spiral structure. The purpose of this survey is to determine if there are any global properties which prohibit arm formation in these galaxies.

To this point, we have found no overall pattern in the HI of these galaxies. Some posess warped disks and are canabalizing small companions, while others seem to be isolated and very regular. Optical imaging reveals a variety of arm structures in all colors. Further study of the dynamics of these objects is warrented to determine an explanation for their morphologies.
