[79.07] Probing the Radio Emission from Gamma Ray Blazars

The Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope on the Compton Gammay Ray Observatory discovered nearly 70 blazars with high confidence. The mechanics that results in the detectable gamma ray emission from these sources, is not completely understood, however. We obtained high resolution VLBA polarization imaging of two such gamma ray sources. We present our analysis of the superluminal motions discovered in each blazar as well as the overall polarization and spectral index structure. We propose a model in which the blazar jet begins highly aligned to the line of sight, and then bends slighly away, thus explaining the detected gamma ray emission as well as the evolution of the radio structure.
