[103.04] The GALEX Deep Fields: UV-selected galaxies at z~1

The GALEX deep imaging survey (DIS) will cover nearly 100 sq. degrees of sky to mFUV/NUV ~ 25 AB and yield rest-frame UV fluxes for several million galaxies at z~1. Targets have been selected to cover many of the best-studied deep fields including GOODS, NOAO DWS, VVDS, DEEP and planned SIRTF/SWIRE deep and wide angle surveys. We present early results from the DIS including UV counts, z-selection (using Lyman break and photometric redshift), redshift distribution, variance and UV properties of galaxies in the z~1 sample.

GALEX (Galaxy Evolution Explorer) is a NASA Small Explorer, launched in April 2003. We gratefully acknowledge NASA's support for construction, operation, and science analysis for the GALEX mission.
