[12.03] The Early-type Binary MP Centauri

D. Terrell (SwRI), U. Munari (Astronomical Observatory of Padova), T. Zwitter (University of Ljubljana), G. Wolf (SW Missouri State University)

We have begun a project to gather modern data on early-type overcontact binaries, systems about which very little is known. These systems consist of O, B and A-type stars that are in physical contact with one another, similar to their late-type cousins the W UMa systems. We are obtaining high resolution (R ~ 50,000) spectra to anaylze simultaneously with high precision photometry. Here we report on the first combined photometric and spectroscopic study of MP Centauri.
