[92.02] A VLBA HI Study of 4C12.50

E.R. Landes (UC Berkeley), Y. Pihlstroem, A. Mioduszewski (NRAO, Socorro, NN)

We present preliminary results from VLBA observations of the neutral atomic hydrogen absorption in 4C12.50. All of the single dish HI absorption is recovered in our VLBA data, indicating a very compact scale of the absorbing gas. The absorption is concentrated against the counter-jet, but weaker absorption is also detected towards the core region. The highest opacity is found against the counter-jet and gradually decreases to zero over the core. Furthermore, a velocity gradient is revealed in the east-west direction. The spatial distribution and the kinematics are consistent with HI absorption in an inclined disk or torus.

For the opportunity to present our work, we would like to thank NRAO and NSF as well as acknowledge the financial support of the NSF REU program.
