[47.08] New Results from an Intracluster Star Imaging Survey

J.J. Feldmeier, J.C. Mihos, H.L. Morrison, P. Harding (Case Western Reserve University)

We report the latest results from our deep imaging survey of Abell clusters to quantify the amount of intracluster starlight as a function of cluster properties. We have observed thirteen clusters thus far at redshifts between 0.02 and 0.2, and additional observations are planned.

We find that intracluster tidal debris is common in these clusters, in the form of broad plume-like structures, though we have found few arc-like structures that were originally predicted by models of intracluster star production. The total fraction of intracluster light in each cluster varies between 10% and 20%, depending on the isophotal cutoff adopted. Other results, including the first intracluster observations from the CWRU Burrell Schmidt, will also be discussed.
