[34.02] The Best Astronomy Images of 2003: News and Views for Your Classroom

R. J. Nemiroff (Michigan Tech & Astronomy Picture of the Day)

The images of 2003 with the highest likely impact on astronomy and astronomy classes will be reviewed. Topical images carry important news information that are typically too new for astronomy textbooks to cover. Other images are just so cool looking that they inspire the imagination of current students while bolstering the enrollment of future astronomy classes. Good sources for these images on the web will be reviewed. The top 10 images subjectively deemed as the most newsworthy of 2003 will be reviewed and discussed, as well top 10 images subjectively deemed as the "coolest."
