[39.01] X-rays from SNR1987A, V: the saga continues...

D. N. Burrows, S. Park (Penn State), S. A. Zhekov (Space Research Institute), R. McCray (JILA)

In this sequel to our long-running series on Chandra observations of SN/SNR1987A, we present data from eight observations taken over the past four years. The X-ray remnant continues to brighten, with the current flux more than four times brighter than our first observations in 1999. The spectrum has been gradually softening and the western half of the remnant has brightened dramatically at low energies in recent years, suggesting that we are now seeing X-ray emission from much of the inner ring.

This work is made possible by grants from SAO.
