We present a new sample of 2980 candidate isolated galaxies obtained via an automated systematic search of the ~2099 sq deg of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 1 (SDSS DR1; Abazajian 2003) photometric data. The selection algorithm, implementing a variation of the original Karachentseva (1973) criteria, proved to be very efficient and fast. Based upon this algorithm, we find that only about one in ten thousand galaxies in the DR1 can be viewed as truly isolated.
