[44.01] The Use of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Accretion Disk Models to Analyze the Light Curves of Cataclysmic Variables Using Accretio

The use of differential corrections programs such as Wilson-Devinney is well established, but for some type of stellar systems the existing tools are not sufficient. As part of a project to enable cataclysmic variables to be analyzed through an expansion of existing programs, a model for an accretion disk, constructed utilizing smoothed particle hydrodynamics, was adopted to help model physically real disks.

The application of this model provides the basis for an expansion of the Wilson-Devinney program, as well as allowing for the modeling of the accretion disks separately. The model being used can be examined in a number of ways in order to provide checks to the suitability and reliability of the applications of the model. In this poster, the SPH model used to generate disk light curves in the modified Wilson-Devinney program is described (Leckenby, 2000), as well as its use in a number of approaches, in order to demonstrate the utility of this approach.
