[14.01] Star Formation Rates in Galaxies: A Panchromatic Perspective

T.M. Heckman (Johns Hopkins University)

I will review diagnostics of the star formation rate in galaxies from the X-ray through radio regime. I will compare the star formation rates derived from these diagnostics to those measured from the SDSS imaging and spectroscopic data, with particular emphasis on a comparison to new GALEX ultraviolet photometry. Finally, I will compare the star formation rates in normal vs. active galaxies.
