[6.07] First Spectroscopic Detection of Pulsational Modes in a Long Period Subdwarf B Star Variable

During March--July 2003, we obtained 1.8A resolution time-series spectra of the subdwarf B star variable PG1627+017, as part of a multiple site spectroscopic campaign. This target was selected because it is the brightest and has the highest amplitude variations among the recently discovered long period subdwarf B pulsators. It is also the coolest known example of this new class of pulsators, which, as a group, are cooler than the previously discovered short period subdwarf B star pulsators (i.e. the EC14026 stars). We present preliminary radial velocity (RV) mode detections and wavelength dependent amplitude variations of PG1627+017. At least two modes have been detected in the RV power spectrum. This is the first spectroscopic detection of pulsational modes in a long period subdwarf B star.
