[63.10] Early Time Photometric Studies of Supernova 1998S

Supernova (SN) 1998S in NGC 3877 was discovered on March 3, 1998. It was a type IIn supernova. Photometric study showed that it was discovered about 10 days before its maximum. Early observations of supernovae are important because they can constrain parameters of early time explosion models, including the energy deposited in the supernova explosion. Observational data we used in the study were obtained by the Beijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO). They included photometric data from March 3 to July 20, 1998 and five spectroscopic data (March 21, March 23, April 14, April 24 and May 25). Detailed early light curves of SN 1998S would be obtained. Analytic models for light curves and energy deposited in the explosion would be discussed.
