[42.04] Dark Energy and Attributes of Physically-Motivated Cosmological Scalar Fields

R. J. Nemiroff, B. Patla (Michigan Tech.)

We investigate a class of physically-motivated scalar field potentials in a search for attributes that could mimic the current cosmological dark energy. The Klein-Gordon scalar field extensions to the general relativistic Friedmann equations are set up and solved. Very simple cases provide analytic solutions, while numeric solutions were found more generally. Some solutions suffer from predictable coincidence problems but also present some potentially appealing attributes. Limits on parameter space from existing measurements and the exploration of parameter space from likely future measurements are discussed.
