We investigate the relationship between black hole mass, M\rm BH, and host galaxy velocity dispersion for QSOs in Data Release 1 (DR1) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) (www.sdss.org) using an automated spectrum fitting routine. We derive M\rm BH, from the broad H\beta line width and the bulge stellar velocity dispersion (\sigma*) from the [O III] narrow line width (\sigma\rm [O~III]). The results agree in the mean with the M\rm BH---\sigma*, relationship for nearby galaxies. Use of Mg II and [O II] in place of H\beta and [O III] allows an assessment of the evolution of the M\rm BH---\sigma* relationship at redshifts up to z ~ 1.2.
