[10.05] Instrumentation Development for Mid-IR Imaging Spectro-polarimetry

C.A. Jurgenson, R.E. Stencel (University of Denver)

SIFTIR, the Spectro-polarimetric Imaging Fourier Transform spectrometer for the InfraRed, is currently being developed at the University of Denver for studies on the atmospheres of evolved stars. With a maximum resolution of 2000 at 10 \mum, SIFTIR will be able to resolve, specifically, the 9.7 \mum silicate feature, and the 11.2 \mum crystalline olivine feature. To accomplish this, an FTS will be used with TNTCAM2, an imaging polarimeter. The full spectral range of the instrument will be between 2-15 \mum, with selectable bandpass filters and polarimetry only available between 8-15 \mum due to waveplate/wiregrid characteristics. Control and calibration of SIFTIR will be discussed, as well as preliminary results with the FTS component. We acknowledge the estate of William Herschel Womble, Sigma Xi grants in aid of research, and NASA’s Rocky Mountain Space Grant for support of this endeavor.
