[41.25] The Spitzer Extragalactic First Look Survey: Spectroscopic and 24-micron Characteristics of Galaxies at z~1

P.I. Choi, L. Yan (Spitzer Science Center), Spitzer Extragalactic First Look Survey Team

We present early results from a multi-wavelength study of z~1 galaxies in the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST) Extragalactic First Look Survey (FLS). We combine Spitzer 24-micron photometry, high-resolution Keck Deimos optical spectroscopy and deep, optical ( R(vega)<25.5) and near-IR (Ks(vega)<20.0) imaging to investigate the spectroscopic and mid-IR characteristics of a Ks-selected sample over a large (~0.25 sq. degree), contiguous area. The specific goals of this study are a) to measure the Ks-selected, NIR luminosity function at z~1; b) to characterize the nature of this high-redshift population through the investigation of its spectroscopic and IR properties; and c) to investigate the overall correlation between infrared luminosity and optically measured star-formation rates for various spectroscopically classified galaxy samples.
