[61.06] Analysis of HST/STIS absorption line spectra for Perseus Molecular Cloud Sightlines

C. Church (Harvey Mudd College), B. Penprase (Pomona College), P. Wannier (JPL)

We present results of analysis of HST/STIS spectra for two sightlines near Perseus. These observations are used to determine precise models of the kinematics and relative abundances of ions and atoms within the cloud. The column densities, velocities, and line widths for several ionized and non-ionized species, including S I, S II, Mg II, Mn II, and Ni II were obtained by fitting Hubble STIS spectra in the wavelength region between 1150 and 1550 Å~ with an interactive fitting program. The resulting column densities were used in conjunction with the CLOUDY program to model conditions and constrain the density, pressure, temperature, and ionizing flux within the clouds.
