AAS Members Meeting

Annual Event, Wednesday, June 2, 2004, 1:30-2:30pm, 707/709

The American Geophysical Union has recently issued a new statement on Human Impacts on Climate, available on their website at http://www.agu.org/sci_soc/policy/climate_change_position.html. Members of the Council of the AAS have prepared a draft policy statement endorsing the AGU position for consideration by the full Council. The draft statement will be available in the Members Only section of the AAS website, where members are encouraged to express their own opinions on whether the AAS should endorse the AGU statement. At the Annual Members Meeting, Councilors will present a summary of members' views, and lead a discussion on the role of the Society in the broader issues facing society, specifically the issue of human impact on climate.

The Members Meeting is also the time and place for nominations for candidates to run for the Society's Nominating Committee, which itself selects candidates for the election of Officers and Councilors of the AAS. Here is your chance to affect the course of the Society's future. Whom would you like to see serving on the Nominating Committee? Come prepared to nominate. Just be sure to get the agreement of the person you nominate first!

And, we confess, the Annual Members Meeting is also the business meeting of the Society. Officers will report on the financial health of the AAS and its operations. We'll keep that brief!
