Status of Women in Astronomy

The CSWA will hold a panel discussion on "Diversity -- Next Steps." We will report on the follow-up to the Women in Astronomy II (WIA II) meeting held in June 2003, focusing on the recommendations presented by the CSWA to the June 2004 AAS Council meeting. These cover areas including family issues, changing the culture, and hiring practices, as well as the special responsibilities and opportunities afforded by small and women's colleges, large institutions, and the workforce outside academia. The panel will also discuss the outcome of a special Denver AAS session on "The Astronomy Workforce," co-sponsored by the CSWA, and solicit opinions on where the community would like us to focus our attention.
