[10.06] XMM-Newton observations of flaring star FK Aqr

The low-mass, double-lined, spectroscopic binary FK Aqr (dM2e/dM3e; 8.64 pc) was observed for 60 ksec by XMM-Newton in 2003. Here we present an analysis of the light curve and the spectrum of this active star. The light curve is comprised of numerous small flares which suggest that microflaring is a significant contributor to the coronal emission. The RGS spectrum is dominated by the O VIII resonance line, and also shows prominent lines from high ionization states of Fe. We derive the abundances and the differential emission measure of the coronae of FK Aqr from these lines and compare with other active stars.
