[31.10] A Search for the UV Martian Nightglow Using SPICAM on Mars Express

S.A. Stern (SWRI), S. Perrier, J.-L. Bertaux (CNRS), K. D. Retherford (SWRI)

We search foremission bands of CO and NO molecules from the nighttime Martian atmosphere using the SPICAM UV spectrometer on Mars Express. The observations were obtained on May and August 2004 from Mars orbit. The SPICAM data will be presented and their implications described, as will preliminary discussion of possible excitation mechanisms.

This work was jointly funded by CNRS and NASA.
