The Cassini Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) is an imaging spectrometer working in the wavelength region 0.35-5.2 m. The science goals of the VIMS investigation range over the entire suite of objects in the Saturn system. This paper will relate the results of the VIMS investigation obtained during the period a few weeks before, during, and just after the Saturn Orbit Insertion Maneuver which occurred on June 30, 2004 UT. In addition, the preliminary results from the Titan Ta flyby, to occur on October 26, 2004, will be discussed.
